i went to the topolski century exhibition at waterloo a few weeks ago. it was amazingly raw and really sparked off a lot of inspiration.

if you’re not familiar with him, topolski was an expressionist painter who became an offical war artist in britain during the second world war. his work is very loose and surprisingly contemporary in terms of when it was produced. the main meat of the exhibtion is a 600ft mural he painted between 1975 and his death in the arches of the hungerford bridge. if you happen to be in the area, i really suggest you check it out.

a new second-hand bookshop just opened up where i live. i went in for a rummage and found a very cute little book that has undoubtedly made my day.

it’s called ‘how to draw for the press’ and was published by w.foulsham & co.. i have absolutely no idea when it was published but it certainly is rather old.

it’s filled with gorgeous old illustrations, ideas for layout and some nice pages on typography. took just a few snaps to show you all!
